2011 - 2012 WyzAnt Scholarship Entry

Andrew from Casselberry, FL

What is the most important lesson you have learned in your life?

Always look on the bright side of life.

Life is full of many challenges from which we must overcome, learn from and grow as a person. The most important lesson I have learned in my 22 years of existence is to always find a positive. Life can be exceedingly hard and kick you repeatedly when you are down. If you let every little thing life throws at you consume you with negativity you'll never bloom into your full potential. I was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 12 but had suffered with it the majority of my life prior. I've been in and out of hospitals trying to find a way to eliminate my condition with very little success. If I had sat around complaining endlessly of my unfair circumstance I would have never graduated high school or pushed past my mother’s concern and worry to start college. When I found my self upset, down or overwhelmed at it all I just had remember that even though I can't drive or afford to pay for my medicine that I need to keep my epilepsy under control, there are still many people out there far worst off than myself. At least I have a roof over my head and a loving family surrounding me. I keep these things in the back of my head when I have to bike two hours to my school, work or internship and every month I have to go with out my medicine so I can afford books and school supplies. Keeping positive is the only thing that keeps me somewhat sane. Staying positive is the only thing pushing me closer and closer to my dreams. I would have to say keeping positive is the most important lesson I’ve learned in my short but tiring life.
