In my brief time here at WyzAnt, I've been struck by the diversity of practical applications for statistics. Whether it is nursing, education, organizational behavior, psychology, dentistry, or public health, virtually every scientific field requires an understanding of statistics. Statistics are what we use to know whether interventions are successful, whether a marketing campaign was successful, whether and how a society's culture affects people's behavior. In short, statistics teach us know what factors in our world are important, what factors make a difference, and what factors can be safely ignored. In a world that is increasingly using data to make decisions, it is more important than ever to have a strong conceptual understanding of statistics so that you can critically consume the science in the world around you.
