I think it's safe to say that all teachers are concerned about the academic success of their students. However, something most of us don't consider on an everyday basis concerning our students is their social success. We oftentimes don't realize how difficult it is for some of our students to understand social cues, figure out the hidden rules in the school or social environment, or even how to appropriately interact with others around them. According to Michelle Garcia Winner, a Speech Language Pathologist, "Social thinking is what we do when we interact with people: we think about them. And how we think about people affects how we behave, which in turn affects how others respond to us, which in turn affects our own emotions."
