Hello future students!   I have decided to write a short story about my background and life to assist anyone seeking to hire me for tutoring. My name is Jennifer Powell (obviously... :-) ). I grew up in Montgomery, AL. As a child I always excelled in school activities, and learning was very natural to me. I was quite the quiet one, but not a geek. It made me extremely proud to... read more

Good morning! I am excited to get started in the field of tutoring. I'm a professional educator and I would not want to do anything else. It really is the joy of my life and I think it shows through my love of learning and helping others learn. I believe that education should be fun! If you're not having fun then you're not doing it right!

The first session is really a time for the tutor to get to know the student. The tutor really needs some time to understand where the student struggles and what they can do. Make the first session fun. The student and the tutor should lay out their expectations and how they plan to achieve those goals.

After years of tutoring the same few students, I've decided to branch out a bit. This system is all new to me, but I'm trying it out and hoping for the best. So far I've found that the testing system is ingenious and appropriate, even if the approval process takes way longer than I expected.   Feel free to ask me any questions! I'd love to help anyone out.

Today, I confirmed my first client through WyzAnt. We will be working on 10th grade chemistry and algebra 2. While I have tutoring experience in academic settings, I have never taken the step to tutor independently. WyzAnt has provided an avenue through which I can independently schedule tutoring hours, create lesson plans, and maintain a network of potential students. Thank you, WyzAnt!&n... read more

I'm making my way through about three hundred qualifying tests.  I should get through them in the next couple of days.   Wyzant wants to know, "What are your tips to stay motivated through finals at the end of the school year?"   I just finished my last final paper of the semester yesterday.  I think that the best thing to do to stay motivated is to... read more

I am new to Wyzant and have just started tutoring students here this week. I have been a tutor before but I love the format here and I am very excited to meet all the new people here.  Being a math tutor and helping students who have a fear of mathematics overcome that and realize that sense of accomplishment once complete is so rewarding.  I really enjoy working with students through... read more

Hi everyone! :)   I'm new here to WyzAnt and have only been out of High School for year. I am young but I hope that doesn't make me any less credible in your eyes. I graduated from High School 6 months earlier than the rest of my class with a GPA of 3.86. Please look through my profile and talk to me before deciding whether or not I am qualified to work with your child.   Sincerely... read more

This week while meeting a student for the first time, I did something I am very embarrassed about. Normally I tutor students who are in the traditional school setting, this week was my first time meeting with a home-schooled student. This being the case we decided to meet up in the morning as opposed to in the later afternoon when I normally tutor. We headed down to the city library for our... read more
