OpenOffice.org offers a free, open source solution for you. Plus, it is available for Microsoft, Mac, and Linux operating systems.
OpenOffice the following titles in its suite: Write, Impress, Calc, Base, and Draw. These "mimic" what Microsoft Office offers.
Write is the equivalent to Word Impress is equivalent of PowerPoint; Base is equivalent to Access; Calc is equivalent to Excel, and Draw is equivalent to Paint.
OpenOffice can open, edit, and create documents in the popular MS Office formats. These include, but is not limited, to the following: doc, docx, ppt, pptx, xls, xlsx, etc. Also included is the ability to create PDF files without the need for any additional software.
OpenOffice can be easily downloaded from http://www.openoffice.org. Best of all, in case you have forgotten, it's FREE! You can download it and install it onto as many computers as you please.
OpenOffice can also be taken with you on a thumb drive. At http://www.portableapps.com you can find a portable application suite full of software that can be run from a thumb drive. And, this software suite comes with a portable version of OpenOffice with all of the functionality of the home version. This is great for students or office employees so that they can have access to their documents and software while on the run and when their laptop battery runs down. OpenOffice is great for your budget and works extremely well. If you have used Microsoft Office you will have no problem migrating to OpenOffice.
