Learning from every student

My name is Heather and I would like to tell you about a student whom influenced me to learn as I teach. Yacub was an adult ESL student whom spoke various Arabic languages. He was always punctual to his tutoring sessions and always did his homework. As I taught him how to improve his English, I would learn words from him in his native languages. I learned so much from him, and he learned very well from me. I hope Yacub is doing well these days.

It is students like Yacub that make tutoring so worth it.

Too true! I work with several students who are native Spanish speakers, but speak English well as they have grown up in the US for a better part of their lives. My students often speak to me in Spanish, and I find myself picking up quite a bit from them! Finding a way to be reciprocal with tutoring--that is, both the tutor and student sharing something with each other--is such an amazing place to arrive, and it makes things go so much more smoothly! I am glad you also had this opportunity with Yacub! Thanks for sharing :)
