Real world experience.
It is great to have an understanding of production techniques that you get from college. It is a whole nother thing when it comes to real world applications. Understanding continuity, understanding transitions, do you use an effect, do you dissolve or do you hard cut? There is a purpose for each of these editing styles. Understanding each of these, how to utilize each one. Is a knowledge you do not get in books. Giving each video your own style, your own creative touch is something you learn from practice and understanding.
Video production is a creative medium that allows each individual their own personal expression. Understanding the complex world of of video composition with such knowledge of "vectors, golden mean, rule of thirds" can only be understood through hands on work. Having working knowledge of all the components, having a tutor that is willing to work with you from the "pre-production, production through post-production" if needed is my objective.
