How do I figure out what 2(-5) answer is

You have to multiply the 2 numbers. Keep in mind that a positive times a negative is a negative number.

2 * -5 = -10

This question is asking what is 2 multiplied by negative 5.  The rules are as follows:

A positive multiplied by a positive results in a positive number.

A negative multiplied by a negative results in a negative number.

A negative number multiplied by a positive number results in a negative number.

 

Therefore, 2 times negative 5 is equal to negative 10,

or

2(-5)=-10

2(-5) = 1 /2*2*2*2*2 = 1/32
