word problem please help.

Linda and Dave leave simultanously from the same starting point biking in opposite directions. Linda bikes at 6.2 miles per hour and Dave bikes at 10.6 miles per hour. How long will it be until they are 71.4 miles apart from each other? Give an equation that will allow you to find the answer and solve it. You may draw a table if you wish.

Let x equal amount of time passed.
Distance is the difference between the two objects; because they are going opposite directions, we are subtracting a negative, which is the same as adding.
 
Thus, 6.2x+10.6x=71.4
16.8x=71.4
