Can you please walk me through this one too. Determine whether (-1, -8) is a solution for y=x-5...
Determine whether (-1, -8) is a solution for y=x-5.
Tutors, please sign in to answer this question.
since you are given the point to test as (-1,-8) that means x = -1 and y = -8
So, you plug in this values unto your equation. Plug in -1 for x and -8 for y
-8 = -1 - 5
but since it is NOT true that -8 = -6, the point (-1,-8) is NOT a solution for this equation.
An ordered pair is written (x.y) so in this case x = -1 and y = -8 So your equation is -8 =-1-5. If this is a true statement it is a solution. if it is not true then it is not a solution. does -8 = -1-5?
Hope this helps
