Hi Jason;

y = 2x + 3

This equation is in the slope-intercept form of...

y=mx+b

m is the slope.

b is the y-intercept, the value of y when x=0.

Any equation parallel to it has the same slope, but different y-intercept.

y=2x+b

Let's plug-in the point provided...

1=[(2)(-4)]+b

1=-8+b

Let's add 8 to both sides...

8+1=-8+b+8

9=b

y=2x+9
