log of 60 to the base 8 is the power to which 8 must be raised to give 60. We solve for x in
60=8x.  Taking logs on both sides, their base doesn't matter, we have
log(60)=xlog(8) or that x=log(60)/log(8)

                 log 60         ln 60
log8 60  = ---------  =  --------  ≈  1.969
                 log 8           ln 8
                   ↑        or      ↑
            base 10         base "e"

log 60 ≈ 1.77815125
log 8 ≈ 0.90309
