EASY GRADE 9 MATH HELP!

The ratio of length to width of a flag of Canada is 2:1.
Assume you have a flag that is 12cm wide.
a) What are the dimensions of an image of the flag that has a scale factor of 3.5?
b) What are the dimensions of an image of the flag that has a scale factor of 0.75?

FIRST, the length to width...
12 cm is the width.
ratio of length to width is 2:1
length:12 cm wide
24 cm length:12 cm wide
 
(a)
x=width of image
3.5(x)=12 cm
Let's divide both sides by 3.5 as we proceed to isolate x...
[3.5(x)]/3.5=(12 cm)/3.5
x=3.4 cm
 
y=length of image
3.5(y)=24 cm
Let's divide both sides by 3.5...
[3.5(y)]/3.5=(24 cm)/3.5
y=6.8
 
Let's verify...
2:1
6.8:3.4
6.8 is double 3.4

x=width of image
0.75(x)=12 cm
x=16
 
y=length of image
0.75(y)=24 cm
y=32

32:16
