A house owner was having his house painted. He was advised that he would require 25kg of paint. Allowing for 15% wastage and assuming that the paint is available in 2 kg cans, what would be the cost of paint purchased, if one can cost Rs.16?

25 kg of paint with 15% waste would amount to:

25 * (1.15) = 28.75 kgs of paint.

The paint is available in 2 kg cans, so 14 cans will take care of the 28 kg, and 1 more can for the .75 kg, totalling 15 cans.

15 * 16 = 240

Hope this helps, and vote thumbs up!

The amount of paint needed accounting for the 15% wastage is 25/0.85=29.4 kg

The total number of cans needed is ceiling of 29.4/2 which is 15

That will cost a total of Rs. 240

Even though the answer arrived at in the end was correct the calculation 25 * (1.15) = 28.75 was incorrect.
