TO ADD MIXED NUMBERS YOU HAVE TO CONVERT THE MIXED TO IMPROPER FRACTIONS:

2 1/2 = 2X2+1=NUMERATOR=5 AND KEEP THE DENOMINATOR SO YOU HAVE:         5/2=2 1/2
SAME WAY 4 2/3- 4X3+2=14 NUMERATOR SO WE HAVE THE IMPROPER FRACTION   14/3=4 2/3

NOW YOU HAVE 5/2+14/3
YOU HAVE TO FIND THE L C D (LEAST COMMON DENOMINATOR) FOR 2 AND 3 THAT IS EQUAL TO 6 SO YOU
HAVE TO CONVERT THE FRACTIONS TO DENOMINATOR 6:

HOW? DIVIDING 6/2=3 SO YOU HAVE TO MULTIPLY 3 TIMES THE NUMERATOR THAT IS 3X5=15 SO 5/2=15/6

WE ARE DIVIDING THE L C D BY DENOMINATORS TO GET THE NUMERATOR OF THE FRACTIONS

6/3=2 YOU ARE TO MULTIPLY 2X14=28 SO, YOU HAVE 28/6...  .................................

RESUMING: 2 1/2 + 4 /2/3 = 5/2+14/3=15/6+28/6=   43/6  = ANSWER BUT YOU HAVE TO SHOW IT IN MIXED NUMBER SO YOU HAVE TO DIVIDE:

43/6 = 7 1/6 ANSWER
...............................
DON'T TO THE FATAL MISTAKE TO ADD SEPARATE THE WHOLE PART  BECAUSE, YOU WILL HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO DO THE JOB IN DIFFERENT WAY, WHEN YOU ARE SUBTRACTING FOR EXAMPLE:

(3 2/5 -2 2/3)............NEVER SUBTRACT THE WHOLE PART... IF YOU DO THAT YOU HAVE TO SUBTRACT THE FRACTION TO THE WHOLE PART AGAIN LIKE THE BEGINING.

 2 1/2  + 4  2/3  =

You know that 2 1/2 = 2 + 1/2

   2 1/2 + 4 2/3 = 6 + 1/ 2 + 2/3  = 6 + 3/6 + 4/ 6= 4 7/6 = 5 1/6

Always add whole numbers separately, and fractions separate.

Don't convert  them to mixed numbers.
need to first make it an improper fraction or make out a diagram with 2 full circles plus 4 full circles which = 6. So you are then really only adding 1/2+2/3 you need to then find the lowest common denominator being... "6" so you now can add 3/6+4/6=7/6 (improper fraction) giving you another full circle and leaving you with 1/6.  Giving you the answer of .... 7 1/6
