Maria you have to use parenthesis what you typed is

             3          5
   x  =  ——  –  ——
            4y          8

If you are taking Algebra online, your note will be OK, computer program and format of the notes are related to the particular chapter, but for us you have to type assignment precisely. If it is linear equation, you have to separate the coefficient by "y"
x = (3/4)y - 5/8 , or, at least use "space" x = 3/4 y - 5/8

So, if we have the linear equation, the standard form is Ax + By = C (A ≥ 0)
Let's multiply both sides of equation by "8" to cancel the denominators
                     3                  5
 8 • x  =  8 • —— y  –  8 • ——
                     4                  8

8x = 6y - 5

8x - 6y = - 5
