To use the point slope formula, substitute the slope for m, and the coordinates of the point for x₁ and y₁

y - y₁ = m(x - x₁)            Point-slope formula

y - (-4) = 5(x - (-6))       Substitution

y + 4 = 5(x + 6)             Subtracting negatives means adding positives

y + 4 = 5x + 30              Distribute the 5

y + 4 - 4 = 5x + 30 - 4    Subtract 4 from each side

y = 5x + 26                    Simplify
