I'll give you more examples:

1. a(b-c) = a*b - c*b = ab - cb (You could also say ab - bc)

2. 9(3-c) = 9*3 - 9*c = 27 - 9c

3. 4a(b-d) = 4a*b - 4a*d = 4ab - 4ad

Just like the examples above,

4(v-9) = 4*v - 4*9 = 4v-36
