Hi Lisa,

The price before the coupon is $86. After the coupon, the price is $60.20

We use subtraction to find the amount the coupon saved. The difference between 86 and 60.20 is:

86 - 60.20 = 25.80

The coupon saved $25.80. To find out what percentage savings this is, divide it by the original price and multiply by 100%:

25.80/86 x 100% = 30%

So the coupon must have been an 30% off coupon.

Lisa,

An easier way to do this is to say:

Step 1.  60.20/86 = ?

     Result 1 = 70%

Step 2.  100% - 70% = ?
     Result 2 = 30%

This involves only two steps!  Try it later!
