if I have a number fraction and i am addding a positive decimal would I turn the decimal into a fraction

You can choose to turn the decimal into a fraction (example below)

-3/4 + .23= -3/4 + 23/100

Then make the denominators the same by multiplying -3/4 by 25

(-3/4) * (25/25) = -75/100

Then add the two like fractions:

-75/100+23/100= -52/100

OR you can choose to turn the fraction into a decimal (example below)

-3/4 + .23 = -.75 + .23= .52 = 52/100

So the two answers, whether expressed as a decimal or a fraction, are the equal.
