I'm a seasoned writing instructor, with over 4 years' experience working with students from all ages and backgrounds on various writing projects. I'm passionate about understanding your history as a writer, and about your experiences and goals; I'm also skilled in identifying your learning style, matching that style with the most helpful steps into the writing process, and giving you detailed feedback on content and style as you work toward your writing goal.
Many writers say that writing is a way of thinking, but for many of us, writing does not come naturally. For many of us, our experiences with writing have been harsh, overly critical, and unproductive. I want to help you see your gifts as a thinker, discover writing material in both research and personal writing, and strengthen your sense of style and grammar.
I have taught basic composition, advanced composition, ESL, personal memoir writing, introductory literature courses, specialized tutoring groups for individuals with learning disabilities, and interdisciplinary studies. I began teaching undergraduate courses as an undergraduate myself, and then taught at a charter high school in an urban area, working with middle school and high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. I then taught community and private college courses. My most recent position was as Academic Director at an ESL school, where I both taught a variety of ESL courses and ran the school's daily operations.
I have an interdisciplinary focus, and can work with you on a wide variety of writing projects: research essays, personal statements, bibliographies, case studies, business plans and reports, poster presentations, and book reviews. I'm familiar with developmental and educational psychology at a variety of ages, and love creating strong relationships with my students. I look forward to serving you in your learning needs.
