Hello! My name is Cate and I am an experienced educator and tutor. I love working with, and have experience teaching, students of all ages (from 4 - 64). Every student has strengths that can be focused to help them improve. Every student has weaknesses that should be discussed to develop strategies to overcome them. I work hard to do both. I focus on students' personalities and interests to help them discover their inner excellence.
I began teaching people younger than me at age 12 in Girl Scouts. I became a volunteer with Energy Express for two years in high school and was hired by the program after my freshman year of college to be one their teachers. I went on to teach at Parkersburg Arts Center's summer camp the following year. I spent the next summer in Spain practicing the language and deciding what to do after I finished college. After graduating from Marietta College with my BA in English and Theatre; I went to graduate school at West Virginia University and earned my Masters in Secondary English Education. After graduation, I worked as an adjunct faculty member at WVU-P and an in-home tutor for Club Z! tutoring. I also began to tutor privately. I decided to leave the Mid Ohio Valley in 2010 and moved to Columbus to be the STEM and Leadership Development Coordinator for Hard Hatted Women, an Ohio-based non-profit. I finished my time in Columbus by teaching over the summer at COSI, an amazing science museum, and have relocated back to the Mid-Ohio Valley to be with my family and friends again.
