I am a graduate of North Carolina State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Mathematics Education. I have Masters Degrees in Mathematics Education and Philosophy from New York University and Columbia University respectively. I have a PhD from Columbia University in New York, NY. I have successfully defended by dissertation entitled “Exploring Algebra Based Problem Solving Methods and Strategies of Spanish-speaking High School Students”.
I have taught at the middle school, high school and college level since 2005 in New York, NY and Orlando, FL. I have also participated as a visiting Instructor for summer programs at Texas A&M and Duke University. In 2010 I developed and implemented an on-line course for middle school and high school students struggling with mathematics.
My research has allowed me to investigate minority groups and their particular way of learning. Specifically I've studied how students who have various levels of exposure to a secondary language, namely Spanish, are able to accurately solve mathematics problem in that language, in English and in an sole algorithmic form. My hope is to continue investigating how language plays a role in the development of mathematical thinking.
I am a passionate educator that has a love for mathematics and believes that given the right resources any student at any level can be successful. I have a BS in mathematics and have just finished my PhD in mathematics education. While I have never tutored this area specifically. I have a breath of knowledge in the area from my undergraduate studies.
I took linear algebra as an undergrad and then again as a graduate student at Columbia. I have extensive experience in matrix operation and application. I have also taken a rotational application class as an undergraduate that included linear algebra application. I have not taught linear algebra, however I would feel comfortable helping someone in the class.
I have taught logic and Number Theory through the Talent Identification Program at Duke University in Durham, NC. I have taken logic as an undergrad and as a graduate students. I have experience with proofs and mod systems application.
I am a trained dancer who danced on a team through high school and college. I have coached a dance team since 2005, and I have founded a Latin dance team for a high school in Orlando, FL. I have also choreographed for Hispanic heritage shows since I was in middle school, most recently putting together the choreography for high schools in FL.
