I am a graduate of North Carolina State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Mathematics Education. I have Masters Degrees in Mathematics Education and Philosophy from New York University and Columbia University respectively. I have a PhD from Columbia University in New York, NY. I have successfully defended by dissertation entitled “Exploring Algebra Based Problem Solving Methods and Strategies of Spanish-speaking High School Students”.

I have taught at the middle school, high school and college level since 2005 in New York, NY and Orlando, FL. I have also participated as a visiting Instructor for summer programs at Texas A&M and Duke University. In 2010 I developed and implemented an on-line course for middle school and high school students struggling with mathematics.

My research has allowed me to investigate minority groups and their particular way of learning. Specifically I've studied how students who have various levels of exposure to a secondary language, namely Spanish, are able to accurately solve mathematics problem in that language, in English and in an sole algorithmic form. My hope is to continue investigating how language plays a role in the development of mathematical thinking.

I am a passionate educator that has a love for mathematics and believes that given the right resources any student at any level can be successful. I have learned the value of teamwork and effective communication and have received various recommendations for my ability to professionally and motivationally lead a team into exceeding their goals while remaining optimistic and enthusiastic.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.
