I have 21 years of experience teaching/tutoring math, elementary arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and trigonometry. Science experience in physics and biology. My desire is to have students "own" the material. I ask questions to guide them through the problem solving process until they can do it independently.
I have also taught classes in public speaking and coached speech and debate. We focus on organizing your thoughts, putting them in an outline, and formatting a speech with a catchy introduction and conclusion- leave your audience with something to think about.
In coaching my children for national spelling bee, we learned a lot about vocabulary development, so I try to focus on how the words are used so they become a part of the student's written and oral communication. Grammar and vocabulary development are so closely intertwined that I teach them together.
As the daughter of a home economics teacher, I learned to sew when I was 10. That was many years ago. Since then, I have done custom sewing for others, taught my daughters to sew, and taught several 4-H members to sew as well. We have worked on all levels of projects, from beginning skirts to wedding dresses and tailored suits.
