Hi! My name is Carolyn, and I taught math and physics in Wisconsin for ten years. Currently, I am certified to teach math in both Wisconsin and Illinois, and I do substitute teaching at about ten different schools in both Illinois and Wisconsin. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Math education from Alfred University In New York. After marrying and moving to Illinois, I worked in the Statutory Accounting Department at Allstate Insurance Company, served as bookkeeper and accountant for a family owned business, raised 2 children, and then transitioned back to teaching full time. I've been told over and over that I have a knack for explaining math and making it easier to understand. Explaining math concepts to students on a one to one basis is one of my favorite things to do. I can help with any level of math through Pre Calculus. Hi! My name is Carolyn, and I taught math and physics in Wisconsin for ten years. Carolyn has been my son's tutor for the past two years and he went from failing algebra to a C+ in the class. She is readily available and is very patient and understanding when teaching and explaining his lessons. I highly recommend her!!
I asked my daughter, after her second tutoring lesson with Carolyn, what made the difference. She said, "she goes at a slower pace, and it helps me understand it better."
Thank you, Carolyn!
Carolyn was very patient and thorough with our son who had reached a point of frustration and the feeling of being overwhelmed. At the end of the lesson he felt that he was finally able to understand the subject matter. Her approach worked very well for our son. He felt supported and guided and was allowed the time to think about what he was learning.
Carolyn is also VERY accommodating when it comes to her schedule. My son was due to have a test in two days and she came both days, with very short notice.
We look forward to working with her in the future, and I have recommended to other parents whose children are also struggling in math.
With Carolyn's help my son went from not doing well on his exams to getting a B following the two days she worked with him.
My son continues to improve in Geometry with Carolyn's help. She is always very flexible and willing to come in a moments notice. She works through his assignments, and has provided additional work in areas he is weak in. It has really given us peace of mind that we have someone that is dependable and is willing to help our son receive the best grade possible.
Once again, Carolyn came to the rescue with short notice. My son's teacher offered to help him after class, but he specifically asked for Carolyn to come over. He said "I getting understand when she explains things".
I can't say enough about my son's tutor, Carolyn. After every session he feels great and does well with upcoming tests or homework. She is also very accommodating to our schedule.
Carolyn was a great find! My daughter, who is a senior needed help with ACT math. They spent quite a bit of time together and my daughter felt very confident going into her ACT test. Carolyn was patient and made her feel very comfortable. My daughter said Carolyn was able to explain things in a way that she understood. It was very easy to communicate with Carolyn to set up the tutoring sessions, and she was very professional and accommodating. I would highly recommend Carolyn!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a great deal of experience working with students with a variety of learning disabilities within a standard classroom setting. I have modified lessons and assessments for many students with individualized education plans and have been especially successful working with students and parents to advance students through various classes. Currently as a substitute teacher, several schools call me first for their special ed teachers because I am very patient and work so well with their students allowing for the many varied learning styles. My most recent continuing education classes have been in the areas of special ed, giving me even greater knowledge and resources to use with special needs students.
