Hi there! My name is Danielle. I possess a Bachelor of Music degree in Choral and General Music Education. I have taught voice privately, and was on staff with a marching band in Southeastern WI for 5 years teaching dance and colorguard. Not only am I willing to give music and dance lessons, but I also am very confident in assisting students with writing techniques, grammar, and proofreading of papers and essays. I am very confident in my teaching techniques but am always open to constructive criticism and ideas. I am very interested in what each student wants out of our time together, and am willing to take that into consideration when choosing repertoire and creating lessons. I believe in a relaxed teaching and learning atmosphere where both myself and my students feel comfortable sharing ideas, and we can both learn from each other. Vocabulary

Vocabulary is a very important piece of learning any subject. I incorporate many strategies (such as using students' prior knowledge of a subject) to help them discover more about subjects through their vocabulary words.

Grammar

Grammar is an area of the English language that can be difficult for many people. Not knowing when to use specific types of punctuation, sentence structure, and different forms of words can make it very difficult to enjoy reading and writing for some. Real-life examples and taking information out-of-context can strengthen anybody's grammatical knowledge!

Reading

Reading comprehension is a difficult task for learners of all levels. Sometimes passages are so long that it's hard to tell which parts are important and which aren't when it comes to comprehension. I work with students on strategies to help them identify key information, and work on ways to speed up the reading process while still getting the important information from a given selection or article.

Music Theory

Many student musicians today can make it all the way through their high school careers without knowing the very basics of music theory. Wouldn't it be useful to know what key a piece is in and know how to play it (transpose to) in another key if necessary? Breaking down music to its essentials can shed light on many musical ideas!

Writing

Writing is an integral part of expressing yourself as a student in school. That being said, I understand that many students have trouble feeling confident in writing and I desire to change that by working first on verbal expression, and incorporating those thoughts into writing.

English

The subject of English is very broad, and I am willing to incorporate the student's specific needs into these lessons. Whether the student needs to work on understanding parts of speech, or just sentence structure in the English language, we can find a way to make it fun and interesting!

Proofreading

Many of us slide through our writing courses (and even jobs!) having someone else proofread our papers for us. Through diligence and an understanding of when to be concise and when to elaborate, I believe that anybody can learn to effectively proofread written passages.

General Music

Upon receiving my degree I will be certified to teach general music to students aged 0-21. I seek to enrich students' general music experience through folk songs and dancing, learning by-rote and later applying solfege and by-note techniques, and through the exploration of recorder, guitar, and other instruments.

Sight Singing

I seek to enhance students' sight-singing abilities through the use of both moveable and fixed-do systems, ear-training involving recognition of intervals and triads, and through using folk songs to help achieve correct at-sight reading of melodies.

Voice (Music)

I am a soprano and have been studying voice at the university for four years. I am a firm believer in giving voice students the tools necessary to succeed from the get-go. I am very flexible with regards to techniques used in lessons, because not every singer learns the same way. I am a huge proponent of the use of the International Phonetic Alphabet, and strive for my students to gain a better knowledge of language, usage of breath, vowel formation, resonance, and musicality in their singing. Ballet

I have studied ballet since the age of six, and taught basic ballet techniques to high school-aged students for five years. I believe in teaching the basics of foot and arm positions, proper plie, port-de-bras, and tendue techniques, as well as incorporating jumps and across-the-floor exercises (among others) to foster a well-rounded knowledge of ballet technique.
