I have worked with gifted children as well as children with learning differences including dysgraphia and dyslexia.

I have over 15 years educating children of all ages and academic abilities. Patient and caring. Well versed in numerous educational styles and teaching methodologies including; Classical -Trivium, Montessori, Charlotte Mason, Paideia, Multiple Intelligences, as well as specific teaching strategies for critical thinking, all aspects of reading, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and gifted students. I have a specialty in teaching reading.

I am a former educational consultant for Critical Thinking Books; critiqued and field tested K and 1st grade phonics materials. I have given workshops at educational conferences about incorporating critical thinking into phonics and reading,as well specific critical thinking strategies to use throughout all content areas.

Phonics

I have taught phonics for over 15 years. I field tested and critiqued the kindergarten and first grade phonics books for Critical Thinking Press. I have used the Primary Phonics series and Explode the Code from Educators Publishing Service. In addition I have used Phonics Is Fun, Phonics and Word Study workbooks from Modern Curriculum Press. I also have some phonics training using the Montessori method. On a personal note, i have taught all 8 of my children to read using phonics.

Public Speaking

In high school, I was on the debate team and won numerous speaker and team awards at regional tournaments. In my senior year, I was selected as one of the top 12 debaters in Illinois, which resulted in my qualification for the national tournament held at Harvard.
