I hold a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music, both in Piano Performance, from The Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts - now The University of the Arts. I hold a current Wisconsin DPI General Music teaching license, grades preK-9. I have training in Technics Music Academy keyboard lab and hold my certification for Levels I and II in Orff-Schülwerk.
Although my degrees are in music and musical performance, I have experience in the regular and bilingual classroom setting. I am a bilingual instructor, fluent in English and Spanish. Currently, I am a substitute teacher for the Milwaukee Public Schools in elementary schools. I teach music, Spanish, and work with students in the regular and bilingual classroom. I have also worked in Glendale-River Hills schools, and the School District of Whitefish Bay in elementary and middle school settings.
With over ten years of private piano instruction and teaching in the public school setting, I have the experience to cater private tutoring sessions to student needs and interests. I have worked with students of all ages with exceptional abilities, and use various teaching strategies to best work with students of all ability levels.
When students feel success, they gain confidence. With my passion for language and music, I reach students of all ability levels. I help students develop their skills, gain confidence and learn test-taking and study skills.
With a current Wisconsin DPI 515 General Music certification, I work with students from K4-8th grade (ages 4-15). In general music, students learn to sing, to read musical notation and basic theory, and to respond to music through movement and instrumental activities. Included in instrumental activities, students learn to play keyboard, non-pitched and pitched percussion and soprano recorder.
General music instruction allows me to reach students of all ability levels, and to make connections to other core subjects. For example, students memorize the 50 states through a song and are introduced to children's literature through music. Students learn cross-curricular connections in Social Studies, Math, Reading, Science, Languages, and interpersonal skills as well.
With the ability to create individualized curriculum for each student based on their skills and interests, I can provide basic theory training to beginners including notation, rhythmic and melodic dictation, aural training, basic keyboard and sight-singing skills. With my advanced performance degree I am able to help college-bound students prepare for college entrance exams/auditions and focus on advanced ear training, notation, analysis, form and composition.
With over 40 years of piano performance experience, I am able to teach beginners through very advanced players. Throughout my musical career, I have worked with young pianists to teach notation and rhythm-reading skills, scales and theory, and practice skills. I am comfortable teaching all genres of written music, and I hold an advanced degree in classical piano performance.
I am available to help students prepare for musical auditions, and can accompany musicians as well.
Raised in Venezuela, my first language is Spanish, and I feel comfortable teaching beginners through advanced language learners. Students will learn to read and write in Spanish or English, as well as learn conversational skills in a relaxed, fun setting. If interested, students could learn cultural and historical information as well.
