Dear Parents and Students,
My name is Shannon and I have been teaching for 16 years. My initial training was done in Oxford, England as a classical actress. I was directed and mentored by Sir Ben Kingsley. I hold an honors undergraduate double major in English Professional Writing and Philosophy. My M.A. is in Mythological Studies with an Emphasis in Depth Psychology. I am an ABD (all but dissertation) PhD candidate and expect to complete my dissertation by 2013. I have made my living as a professional actress, director, writer and educator - I am considered one of the best theatre teachers in Milwaukee and have taught for just about every arts organization here. I have also taught pre-school through continuing education adults. I love stories and have followed my bliss by studying them, perfecting them, and teaching them for my entire life. My passion is for the classics: I can make Shakespeare sing for you, or the gods come alive. I have studied religious traditions from around the world, and love to inspire my students to see the connections between each and all people.
As a public school teacher, I have coached forensics and debate, taught reading, creative writing and math. As a substitute, I received standing ovations from my students when I returned each visit. I love learning, your learning, and coach the best from each of my gifted young people by helping to empower you and your unique voice. I am currently working on anti-bullying curriculum and have a special mission to help the communities I touch to be more compassionate.
Learn how the arts and sciences are in conversation, not competition, why education is vital to healthy psyches and why your work is valuable and important. You, in your journey and even in your struggle now, are just where you should be. You are not just a student, you are a hero!
The path of a hero requires places where you stumble and need to ask for help. This is how you will learn the mettle from which you are made. I look forward to helping you re-vision yourself.
