I tutored Physics and Mathematics for 2-3 years at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. I also have minors in Psychology and Spanish and am fairly knowledgeable in many other subject areas.
As far as my tutoring philosophy, I believe that there's more than one way to explain something. If a student isn't comprehending something, I will try to explain it in a different manner. After all, not everyone learns the same way. I, myself, am a visual learner. If I don't see a math problem worked out step-by-step, it's hard for me to understand how to navigate from the question to the correct answer. My greatest strength, as a tutor, is that I'm able to relate to the student; I'm able to get down to their level and understand what it is they are not understanding. If you figure out what the student's stuck on and having trouble understanding, you can work out a way to effectively explain the concept and get past that hurdle.
