As a social worker, I believe it is essential to teach in a two-way, relational style. That is, while I may have certain knowledge and experience, I believe that it is the student's role to direct our work just as much as it is mine. I am interested in understanding what my students want to learn and how they would most benefit in their learning processes. Each individual has a unique learning style, and it is critical for me to adapt lessons to those styles in order to enhance the outcomes.
I have a Master's of Social Work, but have had a vast range of experience. I have taught English in both India, Guatemala, and the U.S., and have tutored teens and young children in Spanish. I have also tutored a 13-year old with autism in math and reading. In addition, I am highly proficient in speaking Spanish. In all of my teaching, I had to really use my creativity to make learning fun. I promise to bring that same enthusiasm to our tutoring sessions!
On a personal note, my interests are travel, other cultures, hiking, kayaking, reading, crossword puzzles, salsa dancing, painting, plant medicine, alternative healing, and enjoying life!
