Tutoring is all about the love of learning, and that's exactly why I'm here. After completing my undergrad psychology coursework in 2.5 years with a 3.9 GPA, I am taking my free semester to earn money for my clinical doctorate program beginning this fall. I know what it's like to be on both sides of the equation, both student and tutor, and this gives me added insight into your academic needs and precisely what it takes for us to collaborate and succeed.
I believe it is important to assess student learning styles, identify strengths as well as improvement areas to provide tailored tutoring reflective of student needs. After tutoring children I babysit as well as high school students and my college peers, I am looking forward to sharing my study techniques, organizational style, and academic habits with any student aiming for success.
My tutoring specialties include any and all things English -- writing, reading, vocabulary, standardized tests -- as well as the social sciences where my main passions lie. Standardized testing can be a big hurdle for many talented students so I also focus on test-taking and preparation to make sure that student scores accurately reflect their academic potential. My students can expect to be respected and valued but also challenged to improve each session. Lessons will be varied to keep students interested, engaged, and growing week after week. This is coupled with student feedback and assessment in order to help guarantee a worthwhile academic experience.
I look forward to hearing from you and working as a team to help you achieve success!
I experienced tutoring of my own as a young math student, and I think that really gives me an advantage for understanding student needs and the best strategies as a tutor now myself!
I have tutored a number of students in Introductory Psychology (college equivalent of AP Psychology) as well as more advanced coursework. I graduated from UW Madison's Psychology program, ranked among the top in the world, in 2.5 years with a 3.9 GPA. I will be starting a Doctorate of Psychology in the Clinical track this fall at the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL.
I have experience working in a number of research lab settings as well as applied clinical internships.
I am qualified to tutor students in study skills because I have past experience helping struggling students get on a better time-management schedule by making detailed calendars. I also practice recall techniques with students utilizing mnemonic devices and personal examples to help students remember material for exams and assessments. I help learners pay attention to key course information as well as retain necessary terms and concepts for short and long-term evaluation. I teach students that it is okay to reward yourself a break or snack once certain tasks are complete and help guide them in focusing activities. I have experience tutoring students who struggle with study skills in order to help them prepare for finals as well as standardized tests like the ACT and SAT.
