My name is Sally and I always begin with an interview and a "fun" assessment of learning patterns. I use a computerized assessment that reveals information about the different modalities that we use in learning and what the learning preferences are with each particular student. Many students who I have worked with in my last 18 years (high school and post high school) tend to use the visual and kinesthetic modalities. Schools tend to use an auditory or verbal modality. I often instruct or tutor students in different strategies that allow them to use their individual pattern of learning with content from their classes. Students often report feeling more at ease and confident with the material thus igniting interest, memory and learning. In addition, grades or scores on reports, assignments and tests improve.
Some of the specialties that have been developed, over the past 38 years of teaching, are studying for different types of tests and learning strategies while taking those tests.
Students have reported that these strategies work and seem designed just for them. Co-teaching a composition and literature class the past ten years was a terrific learning experience for me and I can share that experience with students who need support in writing term papers and research papers, learning new vocabulary and interpreting literature.
My degree is in learning and language disorders and I have been able to work in a variety of setting from pre kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary schools, middle schools. The past twenty years have been in a high school or technical college setting. I bring humor and interest to each of my sessions. Let's chat and learn together.
