I graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor's degree in economics. After completing my degree, I completed a two year teaching commitment with Teach for America, a competitive and prestigious teaching program that places members in high-need school districts throughout the nation. During my commitment, I taught secondary mathematics at an urban charter school in South Central Los Angeles. The classes I taught included algebra 1 and 2 (both honors and remedial), geometry, and per-calculus.
Upon completion of my commitment, I decided that I wished to pursue medical school. I moved to Boston, MA to complete my post-baccalaureate training at Harvard University. Here, I excelled in my pre-medical coursework and completed classes in physics, chemistry (general and organic), general biology, cell biology, biochemistry, anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, and calculus I/II. Additionally, I completed this program while working full time in clinical research at Massachusetts General Hospital. In 2013, I took the MCAT and scored in the 92nd percentile.
My teaching experience combined with my extensive background in economics, mathematics, basic sciences, and MCAT test prep have helped me tutor students of various backgrounds. I have been successful in helping students prepare for the MCAT as well as medical school applications. I have experience tutoring students in need of remediation as well as advancement. I work very hard to ensure that my tutoring sessions are beneficial to the student. I graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor's degree in economics. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught algebra 2 for several years in Los Angeles. I have also taken math through calculus II, and have a strong background in mathematics due to my economics major. I am able to clearly articulate the complex concepts involved in algebra 2 and will be able to help you test out of the classes you desire.
I am a medical student who has an extensive background in genetics courses, not only at the college level but at the medical school level. Students seeking tutoring in genetics are likely doing so because of an interest in medical school so I can help in applying medical knowledge to the basic genetics concepts.
I have taken the MCAT and scored in the 90th percentile (a 34). I am currently applying to medical school and believe that my experience studying for the MCAT, combined with my extensive coursework in the prerequisite coursework and teaching experience will make me a great tutor for the MCAT. I know the structure of the test, a plethora of helpful hints, and possess extensive content knowledge that would be valuable to students.
