Laughter is a natural partner of lasting learning. That's my underlying philosophy as a tutor.
I love being an aunt to far more young people than the children of my siblings. I believe in bringing an aunt's authoritative advantages of being both a non-parental yet safe and sensitive adult to my students.
My tutoring specialty - words - is founded in my master's degree in journalism from University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as my professional writing and editing experience.
I wrote the restaurant guide for the Quest Twin Cities Yellow Pages from 2001-2003, working as an editor for educational book publishers 2001-2007, and serving as editor of the Professional Editors Network's monthly newsletter.
Together, we can score well on those standardized tests best known by their acronyms - PSAT, SAT, ACT, TOEFL, GMAT, and GRE. See my blog for upcoming test dates!
Together, we can master those writing, reading, spelling, grammar, and organization barriers to academic and professional success. English is one of the toughest world languages to learn--even for native speakers.
I admire and enjoy working with ESL students of all ages in conversational English as well as English-language writing and reading. I particularly relish pairing up with those hoping to take home American college degrees.
I have studied two other languages, German in high school and French in college. I understand EFL-ESL students' perspective. I cannot imagine passing college classes taught in a foreign language. That takes courage and patience.
As needed, all of my lessons include coaching in professional email habits, file management, MS Word and Acrobat Reader, including Word and Acrobat editing tools.
The first 30 minutes of my first session with the student are FREE to allow us to relax and get acquainted. I'm looking forward to meeting you!
