I am a high school Spanish teacher in the Green Bay public school system. Previously I was a Spanish teacher in a middle school in McAllen, Texas. I have also taught Spanish at The University of Texas at Austin. I can therefore claim that I have taught Spanish at various grade levels.
Spanish was my college minor. I enhanced my academic knowledge of the language with life experiences. I was a student in a Spanish-language immersion program in Cuernavaca, Mexico. I was an English teacher for three years in Bogota, Colombia. I also lived in Guatemala for more than a year. Through these experiences I achieved a near-native fluency in the language. I received my teaching certificate in 1989.
I recognize that there is more than one learning style and I am very flexible in my approach to teaching. In tutoring I like to have a list of student concerns and then focus on helping the student overcome obstacles to his/her progress. I believe that students must be at ease in order to learn a foreign language and I believe that I tend to put students at ease. I enjoy Spanish and I hope that my enthusiasm may influence students to enjoy it as well!
