I believe an effective tutor is one that is well trained in his/her field and can articulate and relate the material he/she has learned. I received my master's degree from Stanford University, a top 10 nationally ranked university, in both English Literature and Philosophy. I also have over 10 years of tutoring and teaching experience across all ages and backgrounds. I have tutored grades Kindergarten through 12th in everything from reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, to essay writing. I also have experience teaching ESL to adults from foreign countries, including those from Asia and Central and South America.
With that said, I also understand the importance of building rapport and establishing working relationships with parents and students. I learned this as a tutor for one of the largest tutoring companies on the west coast that offered free tutoring through the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). My aim is not simply on instruction, but building trust to ensure my students are as comfortable as possible with my teaching style, and in turn, can put all their focus on their material. I treat each person as their own individual, and make great efforts to adapt to his/her abilities and needs. Most importantly, I love what I do. I show up looking to be challenged and having confidence that progress is always possible.
