Until 2010 I was a science teacher at Waukegan High School. I taught biology, chemistry and earth science at Waukegan High School for 15 years. I used multiple means to engage student learning: hands-on activities, games, songs, art projects, role-playing, outdoor lessons, field-trips, and computer projects. I also sponsored the ecology club. I keep up-to-date on education techniques, science and technology through continuing education. I am well aware that there are different types of learners, and that different learners need different types of lessons.
I recently returned to school for an art degree and there I experienced some frustrations as a student. This experience made me much more sensitive to students' needs. I also found that in art, immediate feedback on your work is extremely helpful. I learned a great deal about how to critique my work and others. I believe this skill is critical in all disciplines. As a tutor, I will work with the student and his/her family to determine goals and needs. I am an excellent teacher, with a great deal of knowledge, skill and variety of experience. I look forward to working with you.
