Hello,
I am interested in opportunities to provide tutoring services to high school students, focusing on Calculus, Algebra, and Geometry. I currently have one student who is a senior in High School. She continuously has had problems in math, and desperately needed to pass this year. After 2 weeks of tutoring her, once a week for about an hour, she has increased her grade to an A in both Algebra 1 and Geometry.
My approach is to teach the student how to identify the nature of the problem and to recognize the appropriate way to solve it. We work through the process several times together, identifying simple, logical steps for solving each type of problem. And then, I give the student sample problems to solve independently and coach them further as needed. My main goal is to make sure the student is self-sufficient, and capable of using the methods on quizzes or tests.
With respect to my educational background and work experience, I'm a Physiology major, and I just graduated from the University of Washington. I'm currently a Research Intern at Seattle Children's Hospital Center for Integrative Brain Research. In college I completed math through Calculus 3 and am proficient in Advanced Trigonometry, Calculus 1 and 2. My favorite types of math are Trig., Geometry, Algebra 1 and 2. I truly like and understand math concepts and enjoy helping others understand the underlying principles.
I would like to meet with you and discuss potential tutoring opportunities.
Thank you.
