Hello there! I am currently in my second year of nursing school in the Portland metro area after receiving a BS in sociology from Portland State. I have three years experience as a tutor and one year teaching in a classroom setting. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor society and a HUGE biology nerd/enthusiast! I specialize in teaching Anatomy and Physiology and pathophysiology, but I also enjoy teaching many different biology subjects. I am great at explaining complex concepts, and I have a lot of patience with the learning process.
I think we have all experienced what it is like to be taught a subject by someone who doesn't care -- I can promise you that it not me! I love teaching, I enjoy the material and I am great at working with students with many different experience levels, education backgrounds, and learning styles. My philosophy is to work with you as a whole person, including your strengths and weaknesses, personal challenges and personal learning style(s) to help you move forward successfully toward your goals. One size certainly does not fit all!
I value transparency, honesty and dedication, so I welcome feedback and suggestions to help me adjust to your learning needs as best as I can.
I have successfully taken multiple biology courses with a 4.0 average as a part of my bachelors of science degree and nursing prerequisite workload. I am able to tutor in many different biology modalities including general biology, cellular biology, genetics, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology.
As a student nurse, I am responsible for educating patients regarding their nutrition, including specialized diets aimed at treating chronic or acute illness (renal, cardiac and diabetic diets). After taking college courses in Clinical Nutrition, "Nutrition for Health" (public health approach), biology, anatomy/physiology and chemistry I am able to competently consult with individuals regarding their own nutrition, as well as tutor student that are taking nutrition courses. I am able to help you understand the chemical nature of food, vitamins, minerals, their effect on cells, organ systems and people as a whole.
I have completed the 3 class series of anatomy and physiology (300-level university course) with a 4.0 average, and progressed on to pathophysiology and pharmacology based on success in A&P. I currently use anatomy and physiology every day in the clinical setting to understand the effects of medication, processes of disease and in the physical assessment my patients.
This is my favorite subject of all time! I love understanding how our bodies work from a cellular level up to an organ system/organism level. It is endlessly fascinating to me. I love passing my excitement for this subject along to others.
