Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

In last 4 years, I taught 8 sections of Visual Communications (an all digital business advertising class) as well as 3 year-long classes of Yearbook Publication to High School Juniors and Seniors.

The classes explored and used both Adobe Illustrator and Indesign. By the semester's end all students were able to build intermediate level multipage documents, logos and business line extensions. Students were encouraged to use nearly all of the toolsets and layers. Several top students built 7-8 layer documents with story type, captions, misc. photos, merged (database) portrait-photos with name and surname, graphic layers, and non-print layers for scrap.

Specifically, the Yearbook Students produced a 180-page hardbound Book that was printed 4-color litho offset. This project also managed over 90 GB of photos all prepared for press in Photoshop. Students worked one hour per day but as the deadline approached, were happy to put in extra 4-hour sessions to meet the date.

During this same time, I personally curated two major professional art exhibitions each with 48+ page self-bound catalogues.

Adobe Photoshop

I have 5 years in photoshop for commercial use. Advise which version you are using. i.e. CS4, CS5 etc. - TR

Desktop Publishing

Desktop publishing is a generic name for many types of software publishing. My particular current strength is in Indesign, however Quark (for example) is an equal competitive product and is similar in its ability to manage type, graphics and photography. These are databases, as opposed to true graphics programs.

Experience with Indesign:

Photography

I taught High School digital art classes and fully digital Yearbook coaching to over 50 student contributors, all using DSLRs. I Taught the Digital based course last two semesters. I coached, edited and taught usage of, and arranged all Yearbook shots: both formal and candid photos for last 3 years. I shot all absence/make-up portraits matching the set-ups of the outside professional's shots.

I specialize and teach in historical art period ‘Straight Photography’, meaning shot it correctly first, only then one may consider aftereffects and manipulation. We will focus on ISO/ASA, Aperture, and Shutter Speed as the primary keys to getting correct exposure and focal distance. Additionally, students that work with me learn a fairly substantial vocabulary of art, design and photography as well as file naming convention.

Currently I am using Nikon D series DSLR, moving from film over 15 years ago.

I also have strong experience in use and teaching of Adobe Photoshop as well as Bridge and many online freebie photo manipulation sites. Note: in graduate school I hired out as a “pro” portfolio photographer for the other artists.
