Hello! Let me introduce myself... Personally,I love story, conversation, research and writing. I am a Master's graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle where I completed my MLIS degree in Library and Information Science in 2011. Libraries are my second home!

In terms of academic experience, I have worked more than 6 years as a Writing Specialist for the Tacoma Community College Writing and Tutoring Center. I have worked with students of all ages, abilities and cultures. I particularly enjoy working with students whose primary language is not English. My skills with grammar, sentence structure and written English syntax have been tailored to meet the needs of students ranging from Middle school through Graduate level collegiate coursework. Thanks to the International Tutor Training Program Certification, I have been designated as a Master Tutor by the College Reading and Learning Association.

In addition to working with a wide range of native speakers and ESL students, I have personal and professional experience working with students who have learning disabilities, dyslexia and hearing loss.

I truly believe that every student has potential for success. I look forward to working with many of you, and helping each of you to reach your personal and academic goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have attended weekly in-depth Bible Studies for the previous 8 years. For the past 10 summers, I have led children's groups for Vacation Bible School. I have also attended a Christian liberal arts university that required courses such as Biblical Literature and church history.

Dyslexia

For the past 6 years, I have tutored students who have dyslexia. Many of them are college students, so we work out reading comprehension strategies and ways to organize written requirements into patterns that make the most sense to the individual student's needs. This can be done verbally at first and then transcribed.

I have a great deal of empathy for learning through dyslexia and dysgraphia at the college level because I am also someone with dysgraphia. On a personal level this has taught me the necessity of problem solving and alternate study methods. As a Master's Degree holder I KNOW it is possible!

Hard Of Hearing

As a community college tutor with basic ASL knowledge, I have worked with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students to improve their reading fluency and comprehension. I have also worked with students to build upon their sentence structure and grammatical knowledge.
