As a tutor I have worked with many types of students in a variety of subjects like English, grammar, editing for tone, style and content, and even in Spanish! I have volunteered at an organization in Atlanta called Everlasting Vitality that tutors and mentors middle school and high school kids in a range of subjects and also offers support. In addition to this I have tutored in Mexico at an orphanage called Casa de Hogar, mostly in basic grammar lessons.
I have also published poetry and thesis work through the University of Washington and I am also a Global Honors graduate with experience in public speaking. Thus, I feel I have a great ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Using these skills and abilities to help others would be very fulfilling work for me.
In a session, before beginning work I will typically ask a student what their strengths and weaknesses are for that particular subject or area, so I know where we should direct our focus. After that I ask them what class their work is for to clarify any instructions or prompts they may have been given. In some instances, mostly for writing assignments I may have a student free write just to get ideas going if they're stuck, or provide examples to help them. This is a general overview, my tutoring methods may vary slightly by a student to student basis depending on their needs. I do hope that you will consider me to be your student's tutor!
