I love to teach! I like to see students succeed and I like to make it fun for you. I use stories, drawings, music and games to help you learn. My lesson plans try to include using our 5 senses. For example, when my students in third grade were learning about literary genre, I read a poem I had written and they wrote their own. We marked the rhythm and beat of the poems with rhythm instruments to help them remember those important things. Younger kids enjoyed learning to read with expression and sometimes we acted out the stories they read. We worked on spelling rules by chanting things like "When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking". We had fun but most importantly, the children learned and their teachers remarked at their improvement.
I was a Pre-School teacher for 25 years and also did music and drama classes with children from Pre-School to Fifth grade. I retired a few years ago but worked for 7 years doing musical plays with Second graders. I have an AA degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from Santa Barbara City College and attended San Jose State University for one year. I have been a tutor in Tacoma School District since January 2011. I have tutored over 20 children in grades K-5 in literacy. I have found tutoring to be a fulfilling experience for me and the children as well.
