I exist to help students thrive, not just in a given subject, but in life. I look at my ability to tutor as a gift, and every opportunity with a student as an opportunity to help them grow in both their academic progress and in their character, because that is what will bring lasting change for them and for others. I'm willing to consider tutoring anyone in any subject, provided its below 12th grade level, having extensive experience in a variety of subjects, and having tutored before for ACT, LEAP, and Otis-Lennon tests. However, I specialize in English, absolutely any area, with writing being perhaps my absolute best area. I have a degree in English, and have tested well at all levels of academic progress, giving me experience with the tests I've mentioned.

I work currently for a learning franchise where I tutor students one on one in a very different manner, training their weak learning skills through what my company calls brain training. I am certified as a trainer through this company. If you want help, contact me, and I will gladly tell you anything you'd like to know, and help you if I can. I treasure every opportunity to help someone change for the better, and am willing to spend considerable time and effort to help them do so. I look forward to meeting you, and you can trust I will listen well, or at least try to, and do my best to adapt to your needs for your sake.

Bible Studies

I have studied the bible for the past several years and taught its truths to both children and adults of many ages, working specifically with teenagers, first graders, and young adults 20-30 in finding ways to help them apply the truths of the bible to their lives. I also attended Liberty University Theological Seminary for a brief period studying for a Master of Divinity that I did not finish, but that spurred me onwards towards more personal study which I continue today, for at least two hours per day, and which I expect to continue for the duration of my life. I feel very confident to tutor in absolutely any biblical area, and have resources to help me that I have acquired over time.

Bodybuilding

Having been overweight a few years ago, I began to experiment with different fitness techniques and study nutrition. Eventually, I learned enough to transform a terrible diet and completely nonexistent exercise schedule into a fitness regime that allowed me to lose 65 pounds of fat and gain approximately 20 pounds of muscle in its place. I went from a chubby 220 lb build with virtually no fitness to a fit 170 pound build capable of just about anything that I set my mind to. Currently, I eat six times per day, workout every other day with different muscle groups using techniques combined from several fitness routines like P90x and others unnamed borrowed from bodybuilding.com and similar resources. My metabolism, blood pressure, and overall fitness are good, and all due to good study and practice. I believe I could tutor others in this area using the knowledge and resources I have gained. I have thought about pursuing a career as a personal trainer several times, but have instead stuck with tutoring, working for a company that trains the mind the way most hope to train the body.

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently work for a education company where I sit down with one student at a time for intense periods of cognitive training. These student range from age 6 upward, often including many elementary students. Having worked with several elementary age children one on one to train them in various learning skills through means of drills as well as in reading and math, I believe that I could help elementary students in any subject in which they have need of assistance. I also work with several elementary school teachers who help me to understand the needs of these sorts of students. I have also tutored an elementary student before in private through leap test materials in all subjects, and the student passed the leap, having failed beforehand. I do well in developing rapport with young students, particularly boys.

Logic

I listened to philosophical debates and university talks on logic for about four years, studying it on my own time in hopes of pursuing an academic career in it, though I have since taken a different career route. I believe I could tutor in the subject though, and learn anything necessary that I do not already know in the area. I found my analytical tendencies predisposed me towards being proficient in logic as a subject.

Phonics

I work for Learning Rx, where I daily drill students through intense cognitive training in reading, using programs designed to be entirely phonics based learning. I have been working there and helping students read for one year and two months.

Religion

I have studied religion at a personal level for a number of years, and take a particular interest in it because I believe religion is the focal point of all worldviews, and that learning about someone's religion will tell you about themselves and how they will make choices. I currently read religious literature on a regular basis, studying for personal enrichment. I also attended Liberty Theological Seminary for a brief period and studied religion there. I am willing and able to dig into any religious subject, even if I do not have prior knowledge, and have an ability to simplify things to a level people can understand.

Study Skills

At the education company where I work, we take a different approach to learning in which we attempt to treat the cause of the problem instead of the symptoms when students have trouble in school. We recognize that students have all sorts of issues that all stem from weak cognitive learning skills, the basic capacities that together allow us to learn anything. We attempt to train these skills through sets of drills focused on different skills like memory, attention, visualization, auditory processing, executive planning, and logic and reasoning. Many of these, particularly the memory exercises, are also good opportunities to throw in tips about study skills. We have good habits that we create within students as we train them, namely that practice will change everything if you up the intensity and change the complexity of exercises on a regular basis, never allowing the brain to rest much, and giving it constant challenge. This can work well in training a student to study.
