Algebra 1

I have worked as a laboratory chemist and as an instructor at Tacoma Community College for several years. I have also taught high school level sciences and mathematics. I have tutored or taught for the past thirty years. This has provided me with an extensive background for general mathematics.

As an instructor, I strive to provide background information and context to my students so that they not only are able to do the work, but have an understanding of the material as well. I like to provide practice material as well so that students may review the subject by rote as necessary. I approach the material in a patient, non-threatening manner, and try to accommodate the student's needs and time-table to the best of my ability. It is my goal to make math an interesting, if not enjoyable subject. I am detail oriented, and very focused on ensuring that whomever I am working with has a comprehensive, worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

ASVAB

I have worked as a laboratory chemist and as an instructor at Tacoma Community College for several years. I have also taught high school level sciences and mathematics. I have tutored or taught for the past thirty years. This has provided me with an extensive background of general knowledge.

Chemistry

Welcome! My name is Bill, and I have been working as a chemist for several years. I have also been teaching chemistry part-time at Tacoma Community College. I have degrees from Santa Clara University and the University of Washington in Chemistry - majoring in Organic Chemistry.

I enjoy the field of chemistry as well as teaching; and have been tutoring for a some time. While the vagaries of chemistry can be vexing, I find that once the basic patterns of chemical behavior have been acquired, it is more comprehensible. I strive to assist students in understanding the 'big picture' as well as the specifics of the material at hand. With sufficient 'vocabulary', the individual topics blend into a mosaic that makes sense, is informative, and useful in many fields such as nursing, bioengineering, biology and other related fields. I look forward to meeting you and assisting you in your efforts to understand and appreciate this challenging field.

GED

I have worked as a laboratory chemist and as an instructor at Tacoma Community College for several years. I have also taught high school level sciences and mathematics. I have tutored or taught for the past thirty years. This has provided me with an extensive background of general knowledge.

The GED is meant to be a measure of the scope of general knowledge that a student has incorporated throughout their lives. Topics are varied, but considered essential. This provides a springboard for continued success in life, and a thorough understanding of the basics of math, English, science and the liberal arts is what I focus on for students attempting to pass the exam. As an instructor, I strive to provide background information and context to my students so that they not only are able to do the work, but have an understanding of the material as well. I like to provide practice material as well so that students may review the subject by rote as necessary. I am detail oriented, and very focused on ensuring that whomever I am working with has a comprehensive, worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

Geometry

Geometry requires practice and insight. I strive to address practical applications while providing rote practice so that skills are strengthened due to familiarity as well as a strong background/appreciation for the material. I also focus on test-taking skills: how best to work and present an answer as well as the best methods of 'relaxing' during a test. I approach the material in a patient, non-threatening manner, and try to accommodate the student's needs and time-table to the best of my ability. It is my goal to make math an interesting, if not enjoyable subject. I am detail oriented and very focused on ensuring that whomever I am working with has a comprehensive, worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

Organic Chemistry

Welcome! My name is Bill, and I have been working as a chemist for several years. I have also been teaching chemistry part-time at Tacoma Community College. I have degrees from Santa Clara University and the University of Washington in Chemistry - majoring in Organic Chemistry. I enjoy the field of organic chemistry as well as teaching; and have been tutoring for a some time. While the vagaries of organic chemistry can be vexing, I find that once the basic patterns of chemical behavior have been acquired, it is more comprehensible. I strive to assist students in understanding the 'big picture' as well as the specifics of the material at hand. Organic chemistry proves more challenging for most due to the fact that you are, in essence, learning a new language. However, with sufficient 'vocabulary', the individual topics blend into a mosaic that makes sense, is informative, and useful in many fields such as nursing, bioengineering, biology and other related fields. I look forward to meeting you and assisting you in your efforts to understand and appreciate this challenging field.

Prealgebra

I have worked as a laboratory chemist and as an instructor at Tacoma Community College for several years. I have also taught high school level sciences and mathematics. I have tutored or taught for the past thirty years. This has provided me with an extensive background for general mathematics.

Pre-algebra covers the core basics of mathematics. Gaining facility at understanding how math 'works' is the goal. Once proficient, the concepts of algebra are introduced, with several examples and an effort to understand the vocabulary as well as processes involved.

SAT Math

I have worked as a laboratory chemist and as an instructor at Tacoma Community College for several years. I have also taught high school level sciences and mathematics. I have tutored or taught for the past thirty years. This has provided me with an extensive background for general mathematics.

For SAT practice my focus is on test taking skills, time management, and lots of practical applications: sample test-taking, detailing the nature of the types of questions asked and how best to answer them as well as the best methods of 'relaxing' during a test. I approach the material in a patient, non-threatening manner, and try to accommodate the student's needs and time-table to the best of my ability. Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
