All of Noye’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Noye’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

Algebra 1

Algebra is essentially arithmetic. Algebra is thus a generalized arithmetic. The use of numbers and symbols, which may be frightening to students, has already begun in the use of numerals, for example, 1, 2, 3, etc., in arithmetic. Algebra uses additional symbols, which can easily learned by using the basic rules of arithmetic, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Algebra has these same rules and also others to be learned. If you can do arithmetic well, you will have little difficulty with algebra.

Algebra 2

From the introductory note I have learned that you or your family member has often struggled with arithmetic and mathematics. Algebra is built upon a sound understanding of the fundamental rules and operations of arithmetic. If you have learned to apply these in Algebra 1 and learned the following rules and operations in Algebra 1, and then you use these with ease, you will greatly accelerate your ability in Algebra 2. If you have difficulty with these fundamental rules of arithmetic and especially algebra 1, then you will learn Algebra 2 with difficulty. Thus, basically to be of help to you, I must aid you in learning these fundamental rules. Then you will excel in Algebra 2. Yet there are time constraints of ten weeks of a course in Algebra 2. These also must be weighed in aiding you in your progress. For with God all things are possible. I am able to help you!

ASVAB

I have taught on the high school level beginning algebra, and in a community college both algebra and trigonometry. I am able to assist readily students at a lower level of knowledge. I tutored a few years ago a nephew who was struggling with pre-algebra. While not identical to ASVAB mathematics, it is similar. With determining your child's ability and difficulty, progress will be made!

Bible Studies

I can offer extensive teaching of the Bible for adults, teenagers and children. I am able to give salutary insights and applications.

Topics include differences between Old Testament Books and New Testament Books and main message and themes of individual books. I wrote a bible study on the 1st Letter of John, which was published by a major Protestant publisher. I describe biblical characters, who they were and their significance. I follow sequences in Life of Moses, Life of Jesus, Life of Paul

I can help with differing genres of individual books.

English

I have written many term papers, columns, and essays. The fundamental rules of English grammar are most important for understanding written and oral expression in English. Consequently, some of the important qualities to develop are vocabulary, spelling, and imagination in a coherent structure of sentences, paragraphs, and themes. With these I can decidedly be of assistance.

Geometry

The study of geometry has two main benefits. First, the concepts and application of geometry to daily life and to advanced mathematics. Secondly, to train the student in the importance and application of sound reasoning, that is, in the use of logic. For geometry is a highly deductive means of reasoning, beginning with known premises to reach a logical conclusion, that is, the proof of a theorem. The child's study thus involves learning how to apply previous knowledge to later concepts. This can have value in other areas of personal and societal concern.

Prealgebra

Pre-algebra is a step from arithmetic to algebra. You learn the concepts of symbols as substitutes for numbers. This progresses very simply and easily. For you begin with arithmetic actions and transition to algebra with a step by step process.

Proofreading

For approximately three (3) years I was employed in the Editorial Department of a major Christian publishing house. I proofread documents and also did indexing of books and magazine articles.

Furthermore, I have also had personal experience with composing bylaws and constitutional documents.

Public Speaking

I have multiple years experience in speaking to small and large audiences.

Three issues, actually four, are necessary to prosper in public speaking. First, confidence that you know well the subject matter. Secondly, that you are confident of your own ability to speak well. Third, that you gain experience in privately speaking the content matter. Fourthly, that you develop and use eye contact with people in the audience.

Additional factors include the ability to have a clear and focused outline of the presentation, you learn to illustrate you main points with common examples, and sometimes add soft humor.

Religion

I am well versed in Christian theology, especially the history and theology of the Lutheran church. I have taught theology in a Lutheran seminary. With my continuing studies I have also gained further insight into the significance of the various strands of Christian theology, and also with the dynamic of the change that is affecting Christian theology today. Furthermore, I have also gained insight into the practical realities of congregational faith and life. I am told by others that I excel as a teacher of theology, bible studies and religion.

Study Skills

Three factors are involved in study skills: first: environmental, light, heat, no distractions of electronic devices. Second: emotional issues, whether personal or related to family circumstances, and biological issues, e. g., hearing, and seeing ability. Third: training in understanding of language, e. g., reading; logical analysis, e. g. priorities, order of procedure.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
