Working in youth ministry and summer camps, having gone through 6 years of collegiate study, and receiving my bachelor of science degree in Environmental Engineering with a minor in mathematics, not only do I have a great deal of experience academically, I also have a lot of experience teaching many different concepts. In coursework, we often formed study groups and oftentimes, I would be the one tutoring my classmates in their engineering homework having finished assignments at an earlier time.
Some topics I did excel in better than others, like introduction to Chemistry where I received a grade of nearly 100% and pre-calculus where I scored nearly 100%. In other topics I struggled, like in multivariable calculus where I needed to retake the class or in an online visual basic programming class. Having mastery in some topics and the experience of struggling in other topics helps me to empathize as a tutor to students who really would like to make it through their classes. It underlines the importance of listening very carefully to those I am tutoring, and offering as much positive encouragement as I can.
