For the past ten years, I have been an educator and trainer in a wide variety of settings. As an academic tutor, I have worked primarily with middle, high school and college level students in the areas of writing
, test preparation
and study skills
. As a Prevention Educator for over eight years, I planned, coordinated and taught educational support groups focused on social-emotional skills for middle and high school aged students. I also develop and lead professional and community training on many different subjects for young people and adults.
As an educator in a variety of different settings, I have developed strong skills in curriculum development and lesson planning, with a particular emphasis on adapting lessons to the unique needs of each individual and/or group. I have also gained expertise in working with students with a wide range of behavioral, developmental and academic challenges. A key part of my success as a educator stems from my faith in students' inherent intelligence and creativity; I know that students have all of the ingredients that they need to succeed, and may simply need someone to help them bring those to the surface.
As a Political Science
major and a soon-to-be graduate student in English
, I am especially adept at tutoring writing, reading, history, social studies
and related subjects. After studying Spanish all through college and living for a year in Bolivia, I also love tutoring Spanish. In addition to these subjects, I can support any student in improving study and organizational skills
, and in preparing for a wide variety of tests.
When I am working with a student, I contact the student (and parent, if applicable) before each session with a summary of hte following session and the lesson plan for the upcoming session. I offer observations and encouragement on students' progress whenever possible, and work with the student and/or parent when needed to troubleshoot any academic or behavioral issues that may arise.
I make every attempt to be as flexible as possible in scheduling tutoring sessions, and to meet the changing needs of students and families. I am always willing to offer make-up sessions; though I prefer 24 hours cancellation notice, I am willing to work with students when emergencies arise. I am happy to meet with students in their homes (with an adult present, if the student is under 18), and/or in a public location such a library.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to succeed in your studies!
