I am a patient, motivational teacher and teacher-trainer with overseas experience in Bulgaria and Hungary. I won a Fulbright Fellowship to teach English to high school students in 2010 and so began a wonderful four-year journey living in Sofia, Bulgaria. I have taught pre-intermediate to advanced English as a Second Language, American Literature, SAT and TOEFL prep courses as well as one-on-one lessons and beginner's English for children. My wish is to inspire my students and help them to achieve their goals. I will accomplish this by tailoring lessons to their needs and interests and learning as much about them as possible.

My educational background is in international studies, with a focus on Europe and the Middle East. I am passionate about travel, the outdoors and learning about different cultures. I also love learning languages and can communicate in both Bulgarian and Spanish.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

I worked as a first grade English teacher for one year. This work was done in a private, bilingual elementary school where students speak both Bulgarian and English fluently. We used the "Sing, Spell, Read and Write" program, which uses songs, games and manipulatives to get children excited about learning the sounds of English letters and letter blends.
